Just a line, and a “to do” for myself…

Getto un sasso a chi lo sa cogliere (e il buon vecchio Morkai lo sa sicuramente fare…). Recentemente ho giocato poco a Giochi di Ruolo di qualsivoglia natura, ma di certo ho maturato in me un odio smisurato per i MUD dal vivo, come qualche volta mi va di chiamare certi giochi di ruolo che, ahimè, anche miei buoni, vecchi amici continuano a giocare.

E allora, lurkando it.hobby.giochi.gdr mi sono appena imbattuto in due titoli interessanti, distribuiti da Narrattiva (notare, non casuale, la doppia “T”), ovvero “Cani nella Vigna” e “Avventure in Prima Serata”.

A proposito, consiglio un’occhiata alla Teoria GNS . Io, ovviamente, sono un “N” 😉

Farewell, Gary.

It was 1991 when I first played Dungeons & Dragons. Back in the old days, Gary Gygax was the name of a kind of demigod, the one who created our favorite game.

17 years ago, on the 4th March 2008, Gary passed away.

See you, Gary. Meet you at the end of the path.

WoW on Linux. Yes I do.

I managed to easily install World Of Warcraft on my Gentoo Linux box using wine. I just installed wine and run the WoW installer.

There are just some caveat:

during the install process, if you install from CDs, the only way to eject the CD to let the installer continue is using the “wine eject” command to be run in a shell;
there is a known bug in the lastest wine releases: it causes wine to crash when exiting WoW. In fact, WoW will not exit and just hang there. You should “ALT+TAB” in a shell and “kill -9” the WoW pid (ps -x and look for it) As of wine 0.9.46 (just emerged) this bug is fixed. I just realized it!;
when ALT+TAB-ing WoW will loose focus and thus, in the standard configuration, stop playing music and sounds. When coming back with the focus, wine fails to send the right signal (or WoW fails to detect it) and so the game will be muted. There are many solutions around the net. The best and easiest one is to enable the “Sound in Background” option in the WoW sound options

I think that’s all. In the next days I’ll install Burning Crusade.
